Data Warehouse Architect (m/f)

Pensum: 80-100%
Start: immediately or by appointment
Duration: unlimited
Location: Urdorf

Main Tasks

  • Own the warehouse data model
    • Define and evolve the canonical representation of core business entities and processes
    • Ensure consistent definitions and conformed concepts across all reporting and analytics use cases.
  • Architect a sustainable warehouse design across core (3NF) and dimensional layers
    • Drive a pragmatic Inmon-style architecture: stabilize source data in a 3NF core model, and publish analytics-ready structures via dimensional marts
    • Design the model so it remains robust against expected source-system replacements and changing operational landscapes (avoid “source-shaped” modeling where possible).
    • Anticipate and formalize implicit requirements
  • Create and defend the mid-/long-term data architecture roadmap
    • Develop a multi-stage roadmap aligned with the broader system landscape
    • Explain design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders - and defend trade-offs.
  • Implement and govern transformation logic with dbt
  • Enable reporting via dimensional marts and an ODS view layer
  • Own transactional and master-data reporting end-to-end: Take responsibility for the full portfolio of transactional reports and master data: requirements, design, implementation (where applicable), and stable operations.
  • Ensure data quality, auditability and performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science / Information Systems (or equivalent experience).
  • Several years of experience designing and evolving enterprise data models in a data warehouse context.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases in a DWH/analytics environment).
  • Strong command of dimensional modeling (and a solid understanding of normalized/core (3NF) modeling in hybrid DWH architectures.
  • Experience building and operating ELT/ETL transformations (ideally with dbt or similar), including testing, documentation and version control.
  • Ability to understand complex domains and translate business processes into robust, reusable data structures (healthcare/insurance or billing is a plus, not required).
  • Demonstrated architect mindset: anticipate implicit requirements, design for change, develop mid-/long-term roadmaps, and explain/defend modeling decisions to stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams and levels.
  • English required; German and/or French is a plus.
